Why Leadership Growthđ± Begins with This Hidden Truth
The Hidden Truth About Leadership Growth might surprise you â and itâs the key to unlocking your full potential.
So let me ask you: Have you ever felt stuck as a leader? Like no matter how many leadership books you read or podcasts you listen to, you just canât seem to break through?
Iâve been there. For a long time, I thought leadership was all about strategy, skills, and making the right moves. But no matter how much I tried to improve those things, I still felt like I was spinning my wheels.
Thatâs when I realized the truth: The secret to becoming a stronger, more valuable leader isnât just about learning new skills â itâs about learning who you are.
If thereâs one lesson my leadership journey has taught me, itâs this: Personal Growth isnât just helpful â itâs essential.
Leadership is an Inside Job, First.
Itâs been said that the hardest person you will ever lead is... you!
Your leadership can only grow as much as you do. Once I committed to growing myself first â working on my mindset, habits, and values â everything started to change. Thatâs when my leadership finally took off.
Through that process, I discovered that personal growth rests on three powerful cornerstones â what I call The Growth Triangle. Master these three, and youâll unlock the kind of growth that leads to real impact.
Letâs break it down.
Growth is contagiousâŠ
When you grow your leadership, your organization grows.
The Growth Triangle: 3 Cornerstones Every Leader Needs to Succeed
If youâre going to grow into the leader youâre meant to be, there are three key things youâve got to remember:
1. Curiosity: Curiosity is the spark that ignites growth. The best leaders never stop asking questions. They stay open to learning, exploring new ideas, and discovering more about themselves and their teams.
Ask yourself: Today, I am curious about⊠? The more curious you are, the more youâll growâand the more equipped youâll be to lead others.
2. Consistency: Youâve probably heard this before, but consistency is where growth really happens. Think about a tree in winter. When everything looks quiet and still, that treeâs roots are working hard, quietly pushing deeper into the ground to prepare for spring.
Your growth works the same way. Showing up consistently, even when no oneâs watching, is what sets the stage for transformation. You donât have to overhaul your life overnight. Just start small. Each day, ask yourself: Whatâs one thing I can do today to grow? Even small steps, when repeated consistently, will build powerful momentum.
3. Commitment: Letâs be honestâgrowth isnât always pretty. There will be moments when you feel stuck, frustrated, or like you're drowning in quicksand. But commitment is what keeps you going.
Think about that same tree. In winter, the winds blow, the snow falls, and the tree stands firm. It doesnât give up because spring feels far away. It keeps holding on, trusting that growth is happening beneath the surface.
Commitment is about staying the courseâeven when growth feels slow or uncertain. Remember, the leaders who make the biggest impact arenât always the ones who started with the most talentâtheyâre the ones who refused to quit.

The Oakley and Willow Story: Growth Happens Beneath the Surface
You know, springtime has this way of reminding us that growth is inevitable. After months of bare branches and chilly winds, trees start waking up like theyâre stretching after a long nap. Little buds start popping out, leaves unfurl, and before you know it, those same trees that looked half-dead are bursting with life.
But hereâs the thingâthat growth didnât happen overnight. It started months before, beneath the surface, with roots quietly doing the work. That tree didnât just decide one day to explode with blooms; it committed to the process long before spring arrived.
Now, imagine thereâs a tree named Oakley. Oakley stood in the forest alongside his friend Willow. One spring morning, as new leaves started popping up, Oakley noticed Willowâs branches were stretching higher than his own.
"Well, look at you, Willow! Youâre growing faster than a vine on a fence post! Whatâs your secret?" Oakley asked.
Willow smiled and said, "Oh, Oakley, Iâve been working on this for months. When winter came, I dug my roots deeper, pulling in water and nutrients so I'd be ready for spring. Growth doesnât just happen when the sun shinesâyouâve got to do the work when no oneâs watching."
Thatâs Leadership in a nutshell
Growth doesnât start when you step into a leadership role⊠it starts long before, with the quiet, consistent work you do to know yourself and grow yourself.
