The Gift of Joy: A Treasure That Radiates
What is the gift of Joy and how is it a treasure that radiates?
Joy is the 2nd gift of your 12 gifts in 12 days - Your Blueprint for a Meaningful Life. So, let me ask you something: When was the last time you truly felt joyful? Not just happy because your coffee order was perfect (though that’s worth celebrating, too), but deep-down, soul-soaring joy. The kind that makes your heart feel like it’s doing a happy dance. That’s the gift we’re talking about today
What is Joy, Really?
Joy isn’t the same thing as happiness. Nope, not even close. Happiness comes and goes like your favorite TV show—one day it’s there, and the next it’s canceled. But Joy? Oh, Joy is a steady force. It’s rooted in gratitude, in love, and in the little moments that make life beautiful, even when things aren’t going perfectly.
Joy is like a light shining inside you, and here’s the best part: It’s contagious. When you let your Joy show, it has a way of spreading to the people around you. It’s the ripple effect that can turn someone’s day around. And who wouldn’t want to be the spark that lights up the room?
A Joyful Moment From My Life
Let me share a little story. Let me share a story about a time when I was growing up in the Bahamas,
Back then…. I thought Joy was snagging the biggest slice of my grandma’s famous guava duff. (don’t know what guava duff is, don’t worry… let’s just say it’s a traditional Bahamian dessert too good to say no to)
Anyway… one Christmas, as I reached for a slice of this sweet stuff, the dish slipped right out of my hands and crashed to the floor. My heart stopped! I was sure my grandma was going to give me “the look”. (you know what “the look” is right?) But instead… she threw her head back and laughed, saying, “Child, life’s like guava duff. Sometimes it lands on the floor. And, Joy is learning to laugh … even when what you want lands on the floor!”
That moment stuck with me. Joy isn’t about having everything go your way. It’s about finding the light in the mess, laughing through the chaos, and sharing that laughter with those you love.
Where Can You Find Joy?
Here’s the thing: Joy isn’t hiding from you. Sometimes, we’re just too busy chasing other things to notice it. But Joy is right there in the small moments—a hug from a loved one, the smell of fresh-baked cookies, or that first sip of coffee in the morning (can you tell I’m a coffee fan?).
Joy is in the moments we’re fully present, the times we choose to see the beauty around us instead of focusing on what’s missing. It’s a choice, friends. And it’s a gift that keeps giving when we let it.
How Can You Keep the Gift of Joy Alive?
Let me invite you to spread some Joy. Here are three ways to unwrap this gift every single day:
Create Joyful Moments- Don’t wait for joy to find you—go out and create it! Dance in your kitchen, sing in the shower, or call up that friend who always makes you laugh.
Share Your Joy- Remember what I said about Joy being contagious? Share it! When you spread joy, it multiplies—for them and you. And let’s be honest, the world could always use a little more of it.
Practice Gratitude Daily- Joy and Gratitude are like peanut butter and jelly—they’re just better together. Start or end your day by listing three things you’re grateful for. They don’t have to be big things. It could be as simple as having a roof over your head, a friend who listens, or the sound of birds chirping outside your window.
Let’s Wrap This Up
As you go through this season and every season of your life, choose joy—not just for yourself but for everyone you meet. Make it your mission to light up someone’s day, to spread that joy like confetti. Because when you give Joy, you get it right back.
I’m cheering 📣 for you!
